When I had my daughter I felt this immense pressure to breastfeed, and I kept going every day to see this lactation consultant, Frankie, at the hospital. Awash in tears, my self-concept at an all-time low, my new daughter screaming, I asked Frankie, “if this is so natural, why is it so hard?” and Frankie said, “Because it is.”
I think about that a lot when I sit down to write.
