What I’m reading

“It takes a lifetime of practice to betray yourself without showing any effort, to be so dream-locked and absent that you say the reverse of what you mean, over and over again, to do the opposite of what is good for you. I cannot recommend this modus operandi to everyone, unless you’d like to fall headlong into insolvency (mine is financial; there are other kinds for other people) and see your worst fears–and more–realized. It wasn’t always like this, though. I would be lying if I didn’t also admit that being TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE has had its advantages. It served me well for a long time, until it didn’t anymore.”
