Goodreads had an interesting poll this summer about why people give up on a book. 46.4 percent said it was due to a book being “slow, boring” while 18.8 percent gave up because of “weak writing.” 3.2 percent stopped because “an author is committed to doing something I hate.” I’m not sure why you’d even start a book if you think the author might be committed to something you hate, but then again, I also don’t understand why some people hurt puppies or don’t have better cell phone etiquette so I guess the world is a mystery.
Good news: only .5 percent give up because a book is immoral.
